How do I know they’re right for me? 1. What are hair extensions? This is adding hair to your own hair by means of fusion (strand by strand), weaving, braiding or bonding. There are many variations to all of these techniques and stylists call these by different names.
top2. Will anyone be able to tell I have had extensions applied? Our consultants are highly trained specialists, with a minimum of 4 years experience. It will be impossible for the human eye to detect the connections as each strand is given the utmost care and attention thereby ensuring discretion. More often than not it’ll be easy enough for you to forget you have them in, only rubbing your hand through your hair will reveal the true secret of your long locks.
top3. How much will it cost? Costs vary in accordance with your requirements. For a quarter head of hair costs start from £100, half head £200 and for a full head, costs start from £300 and up. If you are changing a whole head of hair from short to long, expect to spend anything from 3 – 6 hours having them applied. But we will fully advise you on all costs and timings involved when you come in for your initial consultation. Alternatively you can contact us by phone. After we have asked a few questions about what you would like, we can give a costing indication.
top4. How do I wash them? Wash the hair in one direction. From top to bottom. Avoid washing hair upside down in the sink. Use shampoos and conditioners that are for dry hair and add the most moisture. Wash hair right after swimming. When brushing your hair, start from the bottom and work your way up while holding the top part to keep it from shedding or stretching. Wash, curl and have fun. Though you can wash everyday you will find that your extensions hair will stay clean and curled for days. Wake up too late this morning? No problem. Your hair still looks great!
top5. What types of products should I use? Moisture is the most important thing. Please do not use products for oily hair or strippers that take out chlorine or product build up. These leave the hair dry. Use styling products that are zero or low alcohol. Products for dry hair are the best. Spray in conditioners and glossifiers are wonderful for the ends.
top6. What happens when hair extensions are removed? For real hair where a bonding resin is used, we apply a releaser solution that allows us to remove the individual extensions safely and efficiently.
top7. How will I know when it’s time to replace my extensions? It’s entirely natural. We recommend reapplication every 5 weeks, 3 months maximum for You will notice on your hairbrush, whether you wear extensions or not, that you shed between 70 to 100 hairs a day - adding up to around 3,000 hairs a month or 36,000 a year. It seems a lot but on average we have at least 100,000 to 150,000 hairs on our heads alone, so this rate of growth and renewal is entirely normal.
top8. Won't all those extensions be too heavy for my own hair underneath? If they are applied correctly there should be no problem what so ever. A good technician will balance the weight perfectly, taking a section of your hair and adding an equal balance of extension hair resulting in a completely balanced natural look.
top9. What is the advantage of using 100% human hair? The main advantage of real hair is that it is far easier to look after. There is no need to treat it any differently to your own hair and it looks and feels so natural that even a trained eye cannot tell you are wearing them (when they are done well). For these reasons the celebrities usually opt for the real hair.
top10. What happens if I don’t like my new head of hair? This very rarely happens, but if you are unhappy it is strongly advisable you let qualified staff at JoMad remove your hair extension without damage or residue, leaving your hair just as it was when you started.
top11. Will my scalp still be able to breathe naturally with extensions? Our extensions are fitted close to the hair roots and scalp but do not block them, so you will be able to feel and touch your head skin as normal. Extensions will not hold in heat or prevent you from feeling the cold on your scalp in winter. To do so, you need the cover of a hat, cap or scarf. Extensions are just like normal hair - the only difference being that they make real hair look and feel thicker and better than it may naturally be
top12. What colour should I choose? When JoMad chooses a colour to match your own hair, we ensure that the coulour matches your hair from the middle to the ends. We will never use hair that is as dark as the out growth as that is always darker (unless specifically requested by the client). The blending of your hair on the bottom part is most important. We ensure that you get an exact match.
top13. Will my hair feel much heavier? At first you will definitely notice your extra hair. The extra volume may also initially be an enjoyable novelty - but it is surprising how quickly you get used to having a gloriously full head of hair. Our extensions are so closely matched in look and weight to your real hair that, within hours, they start feeling entirely your own.
top14. Do I need to buy expensive special shampoos and conditioners? You can use exactly the same products of your choice on your new hair that you would on your very own irreplaceable head hair.
top15. Is it safe to leave my hair to dry naturally? Yes, once again, you can treat your extensions just like your own hair. Wet extensions look just as natural and organic as freshly washed hair..
top16. Can I just add highlights? Yes. This is a very effective way of enjoying extensions and you can choose instant colour that your hairdresser might otherwise feel would be too damaging to chemically apply to your own hair. With extensions no harmful dyes or solutions are used and you can either opt for subtle highlights and lowlights or even bold neons, reds, blacks, blues, yellows, pinks, and greens - whatever you want, really. Hair extensions are a great way of achieving a bold new or natural colour.
top17. How safe is it for my own hair to use hair extensions? Our experience with fine hair has given us extensive knowledge of do's and don'ts with regard to applying the appropriate weights of hair. In short there should be no damage to your own head hair either in the process of adding the extension or removing it. There is one hair type that in our experience effects one in several thousand that is not suitable for extension, this being shallow rooted hair. Our techniques have proven themselves for over a decade both safe and highly effective.
top18. Is there any danger of damage to my scalp? No. We have had no reported problems of scalp irritation due to hair extensions.
top19. How long will my hair extensions last? We attach the extensions in such a way - not directly at the scalp (to avoid damage) but also not too low down on the hair shaft, where they would be visible - for it to take up to three months before they grow out sufficiently to need replacing. This way you get the best of both worlds: we save not only your own hair from any potential damage but save you money by making sure you get up to 12 weeks of wear a time out of your new hair.
top20. How do I know they’re right for me? That’s easy! Call today and take advantage of our free consultations. We could tell you within 10 minutes if they’re right for you or not!
